How It’s Calculated: The Logic

GST Exclusive Mode:

When you enter an amount without GST, the final price is calculated by adding the GST amount to the base price.

Formula: Final Price = Base Price + (Base Price * GST Rate / 100)

This GST Calculator is designed for:

  • Retailers, wholesalers, MSMEs preparing GST invoices
  • E-commerce sellers (Amazon/Flipkart/Shopify) pricing inclusive vs exclusive
  • Freelancers/consultants issuing GST invoices for services
  • Startups deciding MRP vs before-tax pricing and state/inter-state supplies
  • Accountants/CAs doing quick checks on CGST/SGST/IGST split
  • Students/learners understanding basic GST math

Whether you bill GST-inclusive prices (MRP) or GST-exclusive prices, this tool gives a fast, intuitive tax breakdown and split.

How This GST Calculator Works

The calculator figures out base value, GST amount, total value, and the tax split based on your inputs.

Formulas

  • Exclusive amount (add GST):
GST = Base × Rate and Total = Base + GST
  • Inclusive amount (remove GST):
    Base = Inclusive ÷ (1 + Rate) and GST = Inclusive − Base
(This mirrors Rule 35 proportionate calculation for tax-inclusive values.) Tax Portal

Split by supply type

  • Intra-state: GST splits equally into CGST + SGST (half each). CBIC GST
  • Inter-state: Entire tax is IGSTCBIC GST

Inputs

  • Amount: number you enter is either before tax (exclusive) or after tax (inclusive)
  • GST Rate: choose a slab (0%, 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) or enter Custom
  • Amount Type: Inclusive or Exclusive
  • Supply Type: Intra-state (CGST+SGST) or Inter-state (IGST)

Outputs

  • Base amount, GST amount, total amount
  • Break-up: CGST + SGST (intra) or IGST (inter)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1) What’s the difference between GST-inclusive and GST-exclusive?

Inclusive means the price already contains GST; we back-compute base and tax. Exclusive means tax is added to the base. (Back-calculation mirrors Rule 35.)Tax Portal

2) When do I use CGST+SGST vs IGST?

If it’s an intra-state supply (supplier and place of supply in the same State/UT) → CGST+SGST. If it’s inter-state → IGST

3) Which rate should I pick?

Depends on the HSN/SAC classification and current notifications. Common slabs include 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%, with special rates for certain items. When unsure, use Custom and verify with official schedules.

4) Does this include Compensation Cess or Reverse Charge?

No. Those depend on the item and transaction type and aren’t included here.

5) Can I compute from MRP (inclusive price)?

Yes—choose Inclusive, enter the MRP, and select the rate. The tool will compute base and GST using the proportionate method.

6) How is “place of supply” determined?

Rules vary for goods vs services (e.g., delivery location, performance location). This tool doesn’t determine place of supply; it just applies the split you select. Refer to law/notifications or consult your CA.

7) Are rates changing?

The GST Council periodically considers rationalisation (e.g., merging slabs). Always check the latest decisions/notifications.
