India’s Rail Network Gets a ₹24,634 Crore Boost – 894 km of New Tracks to Transform 18 Districts

New Delhi, Oct 7 – In a major infrastructure push, the Union Cabinet has cleared four multi-tracking railway projects that will expand India’s rail network by nearly 900 kilometers, connecting 18 districts across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh.

  • The Cabinet has approved four multi-tracking railway projects across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh.
  • Total cost: ₹24,634 crore, Completion target: 2030–31.
  • Adds 894 km to the Indian Railways network, improving connectivity in 18 districts.
  • Benefits over 85 lakh people and 3,633 villages.
  • Major routes: Wardha–Bhusawal, Gondia–Dongargarh, Vadodara–Ratlam, Itarsi–Bhopal–Bina.
  • Will move 78 million tonnes of additional freight each year.
  • Helps save 28 crore litres of fuel and reduce 139 crore kg CO₂ emissions.
  • Developed under the PM Gati Shakti Master Plan for faster, integrated logistics.
  • Expected to boost local economy, jobs, and tourism in connected regions.
