Cabinet Approves 57 New Kendriya Vidyalayas with Rs. 5,862 Crore Outlay
The Union Cabinet has approved opening 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas under the civil sector across India, benefiting over 86,000 students and creating 4,617 direct employment opportunities.

- Total Investment: Rs. 5,862.55 crore over 9 years (2026-27 onwards)
- Capital expenditure: Rs. 2,585.52 crore
- Operational expenditure: Rs. 3,277.03 crore
- Student Coverage:
- Each KV will accommodate ~1,520 students
- Total students benefitted: ~86,640
- Employment Generation:
- 81 staff per KV → 4,617 permanent jobs for 57 KVs
- Additional jobs in construction and allied activities for skilled & unskilled workers
- Educational Expansion:
- Balvatika (3-year pre-primary) introduced in all 57 KVs under NEP 2020
- Focus on underserved, aspirational, LWE, NER/Hilly districts
- 20 KVs in districts with no existing KV
- 17 states/UTs covered
- Strategic Significance:
- Balances pan-India expansion while prioritizing high-demand regions
- Complements earlier sanction of 85 KVs in December 2024
