Big Relief for Taxpayers: CBDT Extends Audit Report Filing Date for AY 2025-26 to 31st October 2025
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced an extension of the specified date for filing audit reports under the Income-tax Act, 1961.
Key Highlights:
- Extended Deadline: From 30th September 2025 ➝ 31st October 2025
- Applicable For: Assessees covered under clause (a) of Explanation 2, Section 139(1)
- Reason for Extension:
- Representations from CA bodies and tax practitioners
- Disruptions due to floods and natural calamities
- Submissions before various High Courts
Filing Data (as of September 2025):
- Tax Audit Reports (TARs) uploaded till 24th Sept: 4,02,000
- TARs filed on 24th Sept alone: 60,000+
- Income Tax Returns (ITRs) filed till 23rd Sept: 7.57 crore
Portal Status:
- CBDT confirms no technical glitches
- e-Filing system is stable and fully functional
