Swachh Bharat Mission 2025: New Support for Rural Sanitation

The Ministry of Jal Shakti, in a Rajya Sabha reply today (18 Aug), shared the latest allocations under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase-II. Villages must set up compost pits, soak pits, and greywater management systems, with per capita financial aid of ₹60 (population ≤5,000) and ₹45 (above 5,000) for solid waste. For greywater, support rises to ₹280–₹660 per capita, with each village guaranteed at least ₹1 lakh.

Funding flows from SBM-G, 15th Finance Commission grants, and schemes like MGNREGS, with States free to prioritize based on local needs.

Alongside funding, campaigns like Swachhata Hi Seva have mobilized 30+ crore people, linking rural sanitation with community-driven behavior change.

Central funds released under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) peaked at ₹5,739 crore in 2023–24, before dipping in 2024–25.
