India Tightens Grip on Global Turmeric Market with 66% Share

On 12 August 2025, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry reported that India continues to dominate global turmeric exports, holding a 66% share of worldwide trade in 2024. In FY 2024-25, exports touched 176,325 tonnes worth $341 million, with Maharashtra leading state-wise earnings at $155.35 million. Top importers were Bangladesh, UAE, USA, Malaysia, and Morocco. Backed by the SPICED Scheme and the National Turmeric Board, the government is focusing on value addition, quality certification, and market expansion to boost rural incomes and maintain India’s leadership in the global spice trade.

This table highlights that Maharashtra not only leads the pack but also jumps significantly in FY 2024-25, touching $155.35 million, contributing nearly 46% of total turmeric export revenue from all listed states.
